Person Killed in Deck Collapse

hoover rescue teams poured into the Waterford Landing apartments off of Lorna Road.

public information officer rusty lowe says that when they arrived they found the 3rd floor deck had collapsed into the second floor deck.

"There were seven people on the deck when it fell...one was in critical condition at the scene and was pronounced dead on arrival at UAB Hospital a second person is in critical condition at UAB."

Our cameras were not allowed inside the apartment complex to get video of the aftermath.

But similar decks are visible from off of the property.

The decks are small but Hoover firefighters are not ready to say the collapse was related to too much weight.

Says Lowe, "It's very hard to speculate right now as far as the weight limit and what might have been the cause of the fall. However it is something you should be aware of when you're on the deck of any structure, no matter how big it is."
