Tide, Tigers surge into SEC tournament

Published May 25, 2010 at 11:41 a.m.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama and Auburn are streaking into their first-round Southeastern Conference tournament matchup.

They'll open the tournament Wednesday morning at Hoover's Regions Park.

The Tigers have won six straight games to secure their first SEC West title in 15 years. The Crimson Tide earned a berth in the field with a five-game win streak.

For Alabama, the key was starting pitchers Jimmy Nelson and Nathan Kilcrease along with the league's most airtight defense. Nelson and Kilcrease have both gone nine innings in each of their last two starts.

Auburn has ridden the league's top offense to a No. 2 seed behind Florida. The Tigers have scored 70 runs during their six-game win streak.
