NATIONAL SHRIMP FESTIVAL
Oct 8-11, Gulf Shores National Shrimp Festival, 38th Annual 251-974-1510. www.nationalshrimpfestival.com. Free. Gulf Shores Public Beaches--Delicious food, fine arts and crafts, children's art village, live entertainment (local and national acts), sand sculpture contest and more. Thurs.-Sat., 10 a.m.- 10 p.m.; Sun., 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.

CULLMAN OKTOBERFEST
Cullman, Alabama: Oct. 3-10. German music, food and dancing, weiner dog race, bratwurst eating contest, historic district tours, art show, crafts fair, Senior Day, crowning of Miss Oktoberfest, Burgermeister Ball. A celebration of Cullman's German heritage, traditions and values. Festhalle Market Platz, behind Cullman County Museum.
Events include: Saturday- 5k Run, First Federal “Shred-A-Thon” 8am-12pm, Tour of Churches 10am-12pm, Community Arts & Crafts Fair. There is a charge for some of the other events. 

MIDDLE EASTERN FOOD FESTIVAL
You will have to pay for the food at the St. George Middle Eastern Food Festival, but there are other free things to enjoy like the music and folk dance. The Church is on 16th Street South in Birmingham. The festival runs Thursday through Saturday.

CORDOVA DAY
Discover Cordova Day is set for Saturday at Old Park. Residents are celebrating the town’s 150th anniversary from 10am-4pm. Local bands will perform.

FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS
Take time to remember our fallen firefighters.  A memorial Ceremony is set for Saturday at 10am at the Alabama Fire College.

FALL FESTIVAL
Hall Kent Elementary School in Homewood holds a Fall Festival Saturday from 4-9pm.

SPRINGVILLE FIRE DEPT. OPEN HOUSE
As part of fire prevention week, Springville Fire Department is having an open house Sunday from 1-5pm. Check out the smoke trailer, then stay for lunch. The department is serving hot dogs!


MCWANE SPECIAL EVENT—(note date)
(Birmingham, AL) – On Sunday, October 25, 2009, the City of Birmingham Mayor's Office-Division of Youth Services (DYS) and the McWane Science Center will be partnering to host a fun day for Birmingham youth in grades K-12 who have Down syndrome. The Up for Down Fun Day will take place from 3:00pm-5:00pm at the McWane Science Center located in downtown Birmingham. Youth with Down syndrome and one guest will receive free passes to the Fun Day and a DYS t-shirt to wear on the day of the event.  In order to participate, youth must be pre-registered through DYS no later than October 21, 2009.  For more information, parents should contact Cedric D.
